Beatitude 140

I have fallen exhausted
From resistance
From submission
To this dull and bloody world
Of greed and spite

I feel like we’re standing in the need of some grace about now…

Blessed are they who suffer at the hands of the ignorant
For they are martyrs
Who pry open our crusty eyes
Kick our sullen hearts
Accuse our indifference
Absorb the darkness
Of our tiny minds and force the search
For the light that frees

One day
One day
One sparkling day

The “140” of the title refers to the mass murder of innocents, most of them children, at a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, December 16, 2014.
